One Response to Losing control

Thank you for commenting on my blog about letting go of control over Socratic Seminar in my high school class. Thank you for adding the link to your story in that reply.

I think you are heading in the same intellectual/emotional direction I am. Is it really a loss of control if I don’t have my hands of the steering wheel, but the car is still safe and going where I want it to go?

We did our third SS today – again, I had a student leader. This time – I didn’t interrupt them once. After 20 minutes, we ended and did some reflection, but the students ran the whole show.

During reflection, I did bring up a couple of points I had wished they had talked about, but overall, I’m happy with where they took their discussion. What I lost on control, I gained in authenticity.
